മതം – രാഷ്ട്രീയം – മറ്റു താൽപ്പര്യങ്ങളെല്ലാം ചരിത്ര രചനയിൽ കടന്നു വരികയും ചരിത്രത്തെ വികലമാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന ഇക്കാലത്ത് . ചരിത്രത്തെ സത്യസന്ധമായി സമീപിക്കുകയും അതിനെ നിഷ്പക്ഷമായി വിലയിരുത്തുകയും വക്രതയില്ലാതെ അത് രേഖപ്പെടുത്താൻ ശ്രമിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന ലോക ശ്രദ്ധയാകർഷിച്ച മലയാളിയായ ,
മരിടൈം ഇൻഡൊ – പോർച്ചുഗീസ് ഹിസ്റ്ററി സ്പഷ്യലിസ്റ്റ് പ്രൊഫ. ഡോ. കെ.എസ്. മാത്യു എന്ന ഈ ചരിത്രകാരനെ അഭിനന്ദിക്കാതെ വയ്യ .
ചില ചരിത്രാന്വേഷണങ്ങളുമായാണ് ഈയുള്ളവനും ഒപ്പം സഹോദരി ഭർത്താവ് അഷറഫ് നൈനയും , ബന്ധുവും കൊച്ചി നൈനാ അസോസിയേഷൻ പ്രസിഡന്റുമായ ബഷീർ നൈനയും , സഹോദരൻ ഫിർദൗസ് നൈനയും മാത്യു സാറിന് അരികിലെത്തുന്നത് . ഹൃദ്യമായി ഞങ്ങളെ സ്വീകരിച്ചിരുത്തിയ ശേഷം ചർച്ചകളിലേക്ക് കടന്നു . വലിയൊരു പാണ്ഡിത്യത്തിനുടമ പക്ഷെ സാധാരണക്കാരായ ഞങ്ങളോട് അറിവുകൾ പങ്ക് വെക്കുന്നതിൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഒട്ടും തന്നെ വിമുഖത കാട്ടിയില്ല .
ഉള്ളും – പുറവും വലിയൊരു ഗ്രന്ഥശാല തന്നെയാണ് . അങ്ങനെ പറയാൻ കാരണം . അദ്ദേഹം ആർജ്ജിച്ചെടുത്ത അറിവുകളും ഒപ്പം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ ഒരുക്കിയിട്ടുള്ള ലൈബ്രറിയും നമ്മെ വിസ്മയിപ്പിക്കും . അറിയില്ലാത്ത ഒന്നിനെ ഒരു മടിയും കൂടാതെ അറിയില്ല എന്ന് തന്നെ തുറന്നു പറയും . അവിടെ തന്റെതായ അഭിപ്രായങ്ങൾ ഒന്നും തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹം പറയില്ല . അല്ലായെങ്കിൽ അന്വേഷിച്ചു കണ്ടെത്തി പിന്നെ പറയാം എന്നും ……
വിശാലമായ തന്റെ ഗ്രന്ഥശാല പോലെ തന്നെ അറിവും , വിശാലമായ മനസ്സുമുള്ള പ്രൊഫ. ഡോ. കെ.എസ് . മാത്യു 1939 -ൽ സ്ക്കറിയ – മറിയം ദമ്പതികളുടെ ഏഴാമത്തെ മകനായി കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ കുറുമല്ലൂരിൽ ഒരു സാധാരണ കുടുംബത്തിൽ ജനിച്ചു .
പ്രാഥമിക വിദ്യഭ്യാസവും , അപ്പർ പ്രൈമറിയും കൊത്തനല്ലൂരിൽ ഒരു സാധാരണ സ്ക്കൂളിൽ മലയാളം മീഡിയത്തിൽ . ഹൈസ്ക്കൂൾ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയത് അതിരമ്പുഴയിൽ നിന്നും . പാലയിൽ നിന്നും ഭാഷാപഠനവും , ആലുവയിൽ നിന്നും ഫിലോസഫിയും , തിയോളജിയും ….
റോമിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഡിഗ്രി കരസ്ഥമാക്കുന്നത് , പൂനാ യൂണിവേർസിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്നും M.A. യും , ഡൽഹിയിലെ JNU

ആദ്യമായി ചരിത്ര വിഭാഗം ലക്ചറർ ( അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് പ്രൊഫസർ ) ആയി ജോലിയിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കുന്നത് ഗുജറാത്തിലെ ബറോഡ M.S. യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിലാണ് പിന്നീട് പ്രമോഷനിലൂടെ റീഡറുമായി ( അസോസിയേറ്റ് പ്രൊഫസർ ) , Central University of Hyderabad -ൽ മൂന്ന് വർഷക്കാലം പ്രൊഫസറും , ചരിത്ര വിഭാഗം തലവനുമായിരുന്നു , പോണ്ടിച്ചേരി സെൻട്രൽ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിൽ 17 വർഷത്തോളം പ്രൊഫസറും ചരിത്ര വിഭാഗത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥാപക തലവനായിരുന്നു , അമേരിക്കയില Wisconsin University , കാനഡയിലെ Ottawa University , ജർമ്മനിയിലെ Heidelberg University , ഫ്രാൻസിലെ Bordeaux University , പാരീസിലെ Maison de Sciences de I Homme എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ വിസിറ്റിങ്ങ് പ്രൊഫസറായും , നമ്മുടെ കാലിക്കറ്റ് സർവകലാശാലയിൽ വിസിറ്റിങ്ങ് പ്രെഫസറായും സേവനം അനുഷ്ടിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് ..പോണ്ടിച്ചേരി സെൻട്രൽ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയുടെ പ്രൊഫസറായിരിക്കെയാണ് വിരമിക്കുന്നത് .
കേന്ദ്ര സർക്കാരിന്റെ
Indian council of historical research , Ministry of human resources development -ൽ മെമ്പറായി നോമിനേറ്റ് ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു , പോർച്ചുഗൽ സർക്കാരിന്റെ Academia de Marinha യുടെ അസോസിയേറ്റ് ഫെലൊ ആയി തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു . പോർച്ചുഗലിന്റെ Maritime History യുടെ പഠനങ്ങൾക്കായി ഇദ്ദേഹം നൽകിയ സംഭാവനകളെ മുൻനിർത്തിയാണിത് . പോർച്ചുഗീസിൽ ഗവേഷണ പഠനങ്ങൾക്കായി രണ്ടു വർഷത്തെ ഫീൽഡ് വർക്കും നടത്തി .
കേന്ദ്ര സർക്കാരിന്റെ സാംസ്കാരിക മന്ത്രാലയത്തിൻ കീഴിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന Mausam പ്രൊജക്ടിനായി ‘Mansoon Battered Port City Kochi ‘ എന്ന പേരിൽ തുറമുഖ നഗരമായ കൊച്ചിക്കായി 2019 നവംമ്പറിൽ ഒരു ഡാറ്റാബേസ് തയ്യാറാക്കി . കേരളത്തിലെ തീരദേശ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ സൈറ്റുകൾക്കായി ഡാറ്റാബേസ് തയ്യാറാക്കുന്നതിന് കേരളത്തിലെ ഡൊമെയ്ൻ വിദഗ്ദരുടെ സംഘടന ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെയാണ് ചുമതലപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത് 2021 മാർച്ച് – ഏപ്രിൽ മാസങ്ങളിലായി ഇത് പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നു .
പോർച്ചുഗൽ , സ്പയിൻ , ജർമ്മനി , ഇറ്റലി , ഫ്രാൻസ് , എന്നീ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലെ ആർക്കെവികളിലും , ലൈബ്രറികളിലും വർക്ക് ചെയ്യുന്നതിനായി പോർച്ചുഗലിലെ ഗുൽബെൻകിയൻ ഫൗണ്ടേഷന്റെ ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ സർവ്വീസിൽ നിന്നും ഫെലോഷിപ്പ് ലഭിച്ചു.
വിദേശത്തും ഇന്ത്യയിലുമായി ഏൽപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ട നിരവധി സ്ഥാനമാനങ്ങളിൽ ചുമതലയേറ്റു ….

തീർച്ചയായും ഈ ചരിത്രകാരനെ മലയാളികൾ അറിയാതെ പോകരുത് പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും പുതു തലമുറ ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെ അറിയേണ്ടതുണ്ട് . പ്രായം പഠനങ്ങൾക്കും , സേവനങ്ങൾക്കും ഒരിക്കലും തടസ്സമല്ല എന്ന് ഈ 82 വയസ്സിലും അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ ജീവിതം മാതൃകയാക്കുന്നു . ഇപ്പോഴും ഈ പ്രായത്തിലും പഠനങ്ങൾക്കായും , മറ്റുള്ളവർക്ക് അറിവ് പകർന്നു നൽകുന്നതിനായും ഊർജ്ജസ്വലനായി തന്റെ ജീവിതം ഒഴിഞ്ഞു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു .
എനിക്ക് അഭിമാനമുണ്ട് … ഞാൻ രചിച്ച ‘ നൈനാ ചരിത്രം നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളിലൂടെ ‘ എന്ന ചരിത്ര പഠന പുസ്തകത്തിനായും ,
